SIPT, Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT) in Malta
The Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT) is a test being offered at Building Blocks in Malta by therapists specialising in Sensory Integration.
The Sensory Integration and Praxis Tests (SIPT) is a tool designed to provide a better understanding behind children’s learning or behaviour difficulties. This measure was developed by Dr.Jean Ayres and assesses aspects of sensory processing or perception that are related to learning and behaviour. The SIPT is designed for children from 4 years to 8 years, 11 months however research shows that it can also be carried out with older children.
The tests has 17 subtests which fall into four categories:
(1) motor-free visual perception,
(2) somatosensory,
(3) praxis,
(4) sensorimotor
This tests plays a key role in assessing praxis which is the ability by which we figure out how to use our hands and body in skilled tasks. A deficit in this area is evident in children with Dyspraxia whom tend to struggle in simple day to day tasks such as playing with toys, using a pencil or fork, academic tasks or engaging in self help tasks.
